FAQ

  • WILL HAVING SOMEONE IN MY HOME MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I'M HOSTING?

Our presence is meant to honor and revere your journey of motherhood, to facilitate recovery and never take *from* you (enough outside sources will want to do that without me adding to it). The initial pre-baby consultation will allow us to establish logistics such as kitchen-familiarity, how to enter the home without bothering anyone and addressing anything else that may put "hosting" pressure on you.

  • WHAT KIND OF FOOD SHOULD I EXPECT?

Ancient traditions prioritize warm, comforting foods. Towards the beginning we will focus on soft/easily digestible food with an emphasis on broth, soup and teas. These meals will be nutrient dense, full of healthy fats, hearty and simple in order to support your specific postpartum needs. Simply put, ancient traditions believe (with variations on the specifics) that giving birth leaves your body vulnerable, depleted of warmth and energy, and in desperate need of recovery and re-building. This is why the focus is on foods that are blood-building as well as energy-building.

For specific food examples, please consult the Sample Menu.

  • CAN I EXPECT TO LOSE WEIGHT?

In following ancient traditions, the first 6 weeks postpartum is not centered around weight loss, so we cannot guarantee any specific weight loss results. Rest, recovery and celebration of what your body has accomplished are of utmost importance. The food being served is meant to keep your metabolism efficient, but each body is different. There is plenty of time to focus on weight loss after the recovery stage if that is your priority, but our purpose is to honor your body and encourage self-love and self-gratitude for the short season we are together.

  • WHO CAN EAT THE MEALS?

There is nothing in these meals that is strictly for postpartum females, meaning your entire family can partake if they wish. They will still be nourished and energized by the food regardless. That said, we do not cook separate dishes for children or partners as our focus really is on the nourishment of the mother. In the pre-baby consultation, our hope is to establish whether you are wanting food just for mama or food for the entire family. If things change after baby arrives and you want to increase the quantity of food, we can absolutely discuss and make changes accordingly.

  • HOW DO I SHARE FEEDBACK?

We take on a limited number of clients so we can provide you with exactly what you need, so don't hesitate to reach out. You will have the necessary contact information so you (or your spouse) can notify me when something doesn't sit well, whether with your digestion or your palate. The more specific you can get (i.e. "I don't like the taste of cumin" or "legumes are giving me and the baby indigestion"), the better we can serve you.
